New Europe Entry Rules: EES, ETIAS & UK ETA
U.S. travelers to Europe now face three major new entry systems: EES (biometric registration at Schengen borders), ETIAS (pre-travel authorization coming late 2026), and UK ETA (already mandatory for the UK). The UK requires a separate ETA, and Ireland has its own rules.
All Schengen countries listed below as "visa-free" currently require no visa for short stays up to 90 days, but EES biometric registration at your first Schengen border is now mandatory. ETIAS will add a pre-travel authorization step in late 2026.
